September : What’s happening on the farm

September : What’s happening on the farm

September

It’s officially grape season, dean has been watering and mowing the fields all summer long to ensure that there will be sweet grapes on the vine ready for picking. This is the second major crop that we allow people to come out to the farm and pick, so it’s always a fun time. And if you have never done this before, it’s a stand up. Which is a nice break on the back from strawberry season.

All of the summer fruits and vegetables continue to be sold in the store and markets, except for watermelons and cantaloupes.

Along with adding the muscadines we also start to see some of the fall squash pop up and show us their abilities.

As for the strawberries, this is when we make the beautiful plastic beds, In the field that the strawberries will sleep all winter long. We always do this a few weeks before planting.
